It's kind of indefinable, but in reading Uprooted I just kept thinking, "this really feels like something Robin McKinley would have written."Sunshine is a good choice from her library; it's an urban fantasy that retells the story of Beauty and the Beast as a vampire novel, and it really in is spectacularly good, but about as disturbing a book as I've ever read.   With the stroke of a pen at the Potsdam Conference following the Allied victory in , Breslau, the largest German city east of Berlin, became the Polish city of Wroclaw. Its more than six hundred thousand inhabitants--almost all of them ethnic Germans--were expelled and replaced by Polish settlers from all parts of prewar Poland. Uprooted examines the long-term psychological and cultural Author: Gregor Thum.

Title:Uprooted Author: Naomi Novik Rating: /5 Series? No Goodreads Book Depository Uprooted is a modern take on a classic coming-of-age fantasy, the tone reminds me of all of my old favourites: Juliet Marillier, Robin McKinley, Diana Wynne Jones. It also reminds me of Naomi Novik's previous series: the wildly entertaining Temeraire. This time, the dragon.   Three years after her last novel left fairy tale conventions, well, Uprooted, Naomi Novik returns with a spiritual successor, Spinning Silver, another fantasy inspired by age-old legends. This is not a sequel, nor is it set in the same world as Uprooted; it is a sister book similarly grounded in Slavic folklore and : Kelly Chiu.

Parents need to know that even though the main character in this book is 9 years old, this book is a better fit for kids in late middle school and up. The book focuses on complex emotional issues of evil and the Holocaust, and raises questions about the nature of man. It could spark a great moral discussion. But kids will probably be very moved 5/5.   Uprooted: a little book review. April 7, Uprooted: A Novel is a mix of everything I love about fiction. It’s got an epic adventure, a strong heroine who builds a tribe of strong friends (male & female!) and who exhibits courage, loyalty, and determination while working to save her people. She has a set of values & sticks to them.
